The Vessel | Heatherwick

In my mind when the plans for this structure first began, I envisioned The Penrose Stairs. A never ending looping staircase leading the person on an impossible journey.

Whether it be a stair full of lemmings marching one after the other to work. Reminding one of mimicking the daily life of a typical New Yorker. Monotonous. Hard work up and down the ladder of life.

The structure compromises a mile of publicly accessible walkway (obviously at a monetary cost though).

There is a slowly moving elevator moving up and down the interior of the structure. (Unconsciously) reserved for those who physically could not make it up and down on their own.. Dare not line up to use it if you are a healthy abled person, you will be frowned upon and shunned away.

Heatherwick is fabulous irrespective of all the negative criticism he cops through the media. He is creating interactive sculptural structures that engage people in what seems to be a world whose attention is constantly distracted and pulled toward the technological 4D world.

Can’t wait to see his floating islands on Pier 65 finished.
